Out in the world

The Moon, then Saturn

The nearly full Moon against a black sky, with dark patches, bright crater rays, and textured terrain.

Two photographs, two different kinds of detail. The Moon shows dark patches, bright rays, and texture across its surface. Saturn is a much smaller shape: a pale disk with rings extending to either side.

One image invites a closer look at a surface. The other is about recognizing an outline. Even with soft edges and very little detail, Saturn has a shape that makes it unmistakable.

These are separate photographs, shown at different image scales. Both are processed edits. The Saturn crop was denoised, sharpened, and enlarged; the larger image does not mean more detail was captured.
